We’re excited to bring you news of an important enhancement to your transactional security. We have partnered with Redefine, the leading blockchain security firm, to integrate their DeFirewall technology right in your Safe{Wallet} interface.

DeFireWall is an innovative risk assessment tool by Redefine. Roll-out in Safe{Wallet} will begin first on the Polygon network, and Ethereum shortly after.

Transactions are Safe and secure

As you know, Safe{Wallet} already enables you to simulate a transaction before its execution, providing you with a full technical analysis of potential success or failure using Tenderly.

Now, we have added another layer of security to your transactions with the Redefine DeFirewall feature, which meticulously scrutinises transactions beforehand for a broad range of risks and attack vectors.

Scan against scams

Most wallet users are not able to properly read and understand a contract or transaction. However, we are convinced that this shouldn’t be a requirement to safely navigate the web3 space.

From seed phrase phishing to hacked frontends, malicious contracts, or scam NFT mints, there are many ways for unsuspecting web3 users to lose their assets.

Many well-known scams could have been mitigated and prevented if the user was able to first run a DeFirewall check before performing a transaction. Malicious attacks such as those on BadgerDAO and cBridge could have been avoided from a user standpoint by not signing and executing any transactions that DeFirewall had pre-flagged.

This feature is especially useful when users are making a new transaction with a dApp or any smart contract that they have not interacted with before. It also comes in handy if a dApp website gets compromised by hackers, as was the case in 2022 with the frontend of Curve.

In such scenarios, DeFirewall diligently flags any detected risks, protecting users from potential losses.

How does DeFirewall work

The DeFirewall feature enhances transaction security by scanning every onchain transaction prior to signing. Its automated engine identifies risks associated with the transaction and provides a risk profile for each identified issue, clearly showing if a transaction would likely result in the user losing funds.

Each risk profile comes with a succinct description of the detected risk and a full report with risk-related metrics, accessible through a link to Redefine’s interface within the Safe{Wallet} user interface.

In the event that a critical risk is identified, the user must manually accept the risk before proceeding with the transaction.

To further protect users, the feature provides a clear overview of the balance changes associated with each transaction. This way, users can easily understand the implications of a transaction, thwarting any attempts by malicious contracts to deceive the user.

Types of risks scanned

DeFirewall scans for a broad range of risks and attack vectors, including:

  • Scams that aim to steal your funds

  • Regulatory risks such as blacklists

  • Activity risks associated with suspicious contract behaviours

The above is not an exhaustive list.

Towards multi-layered security

“Improving the user interfaces of Web3 platforms is one of the greatest tools we have in order to combat bad actors and exploits in this industry. The issue of blind signing, where users may sign off on transactions they are not fully informed about, is an area of concern as we look to make self-custody accessible to a wider range of users and organisations. By partnering with Redefine and integrating DeFirewall, Safe is offering greater transparency and assurance in their everyday transactions, enabling sustainable growth on the platform.”- Richard Meissner, Co-Founder and Technical Lead of Safe

Safe is an unrivalled and trusted platform that financial institutions and other users depend on for managing their digital assets securely. This integration combines two crucial elements for users—enhanced risk visibility and trusted security. We look forward to ushering in a new era of security with this collaboration between Safe and Redefine.”**- Shira Brezis, CEO and Co-Founder of Redefine**
